Emily M. Hawes, PharmD

Emily Hawes, PharmD, BCPS, CPP has been practicing as a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) since 2011. Emily has experience caring for patients at the UNC Family Medicine Center, serving as a Residency Program Director at UNC Medical Center, leading various quality improvement and practice-based research initiatives, and teaching pharmacy and medical students and residents. She is actively involved in research and teaching through her faculty positions at the UNC School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist with a passion for family medicine and team-based, patient-centered quality care.

In her free time, you can find Emily adventuring outdoors and enjoying the beautiful High Country with her husband, Sam, and two children, Caleb and Luke.

Clinical Pharmacy Services
Emily's role is to work alongside the Greenway Medical Associates team to help ensure that patients are on the safest, most effective, affordable, and simple medication regimens. She works as a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP), which is a designation from the North Carolina Boards of Medicine and Pharmacy enabling pharmacists to provide collaborative drug therapy management. This license allows her to order labs and prescribe medications for her patients as needed. Emily's clinic offers a broad range of services including patient education, annual wellness visits, chronic disease management, medication reconciliation after hospital discharge, and medication therapy management. She has experience managing a variety of conditions including but not limited to atrial fibrillation, asthma, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary artery disease, diabetes, gout, heart failure, hypertension, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, tobacco use, and venous thromboembolism.
